Truckers for Troops Kickoff

Since 2007, OOIDA (Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association), has held a care package campaign. This fundraiser focuses on sending the care packages to military personnel stationed in combat zones.  Truckers for Troops also assists other organizations and facilities across the country that provide services to veterans.  They strive to bring cheer and comfort to the lives of veterans.  During the past 13 years of this event, Truckers for Troops has raised more than $667,500!  This allowed  OOIDA to send care packages to over 39,000 military members and to provide assistance to others here at home.

Scheduled annually to correspond with Veterans Day, the 14th annual campaign will happen this year from November 9-16.

During the campaign truckers can join OOIDA or renew their membership for only $35!  And 10% of that membership fee goes toward care packages with OOIDA matching that 10% dollar for dollar. You can also make personal contributions to the Truckers for Troops fund.  These contributions are tax-deductible and paid to the OOIDA Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. It’s easy to  join or renew with OOIDA or to contribute;  just call OOIDA’s main telephone number, 800-444-5791.  They will have someone available answering the phones until 7:30 p.m. Central time.

OOIDA is currently accepting addresses for sending packages.  If you have family member or friend serving in a combat zone with the U.S. military and would like for them to receive a care package, please send the name and complete address to troops@ooida.com .  Be sure to include projected stateside return date.  OOIDA is also accepting personal cards or letters to include inside the packages.  The group is also looking for veterans’ facilities with unmet needs where they can provide assistance.

New for 2020, the program will also provide benefit to Veterans Community Project.  This program utilizes tiny houses to provide shelter for homeless veterans.  In addition, VCP offers a variety of other services including financial counseling, mental health referrals, and help navigating the VA and benefits.  Veterans also have free access to a food pantry and hygiene kits.

Please help honor and support our veterans through this program – Truckers for Troops.
