How to Use the HMR
Dates: October 27, November 3, December 1, January 12
Time commitment: 90 minutes. Learning Level: Beginner.
This session will help you understand the 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and the Hazardous Material Table to help make sure you are shipping hazmat correctly. At the end of the session, attendees will be able to describe the purpose of the 49 CFR, identify basic roles and responsibilities of shippers, and know how to locate reference numbers in the HMR for both Hazard Identification and Packaging requirements.
Training and Security
Dates:November 19, December 17, January 28
Time commitment: 90 minutes. Learning Level: Beginner.
This session will help you to understand everyone’s responsibilities and roles when a hazardous material is on the move in the transportation system, according to the 49 CFR. We will explore testing, recordkeeping and training sources, and also learn how to discuss threat assessments through a written plan.
Shipping Papers and You
Dates: November 3, November 17, December 15, January 26
Time commitment: 90 minutes. Learning Level: Beginner.
This session will help you understand the 49 CFR so that you can determine everything that must be written on a shipping paper. We will identify the basic description of hazardous materials and learn where that information is found on the shipping paper, and explore the other required information that must be listed. Lastly, we will discuss how long records must be retained.
Packaging Requirements
Dates: November 10, December 3, January 14
Time commitment: 90 minutes. Learning Level: Beginner.
This session will help you explore packaging vs. package requirements. We will explore your responsibilities as the shipper, and include package identification based on commodity, non-bulk packing vs. bulk packing, and how to use the Hazardous Materials Table to help you figure out everything you need to know to move that package in the transportation system. All of this will be done using the 49 CFR through a guided tour, complete with Question & Answer opportunities, while giving you resources that you can use for years to come.
How to Properly Placard Your Transport Vehicle
Dates: November 5, November 10, December 10, January 21
Time commitment: 90 minutes. Learning Level: Beginner.
As a new-to-hazmat employee, this session will help you figure out the placarding requirements for non-bulk and bulk shipments, find subsidiary placarding provisions, and talk about placarding exceptions. We will do this by exploring the 49 CFR and DOT Chart 16 with a skilled instructor who will make sure you have the resources you need to accomplish the tasks of transporting hazmat and communicating hazards along your way.
Marking and Labeling
Dates: November 3, November 10, December 8, January 19
Time commitment: 90 minutes. Learning Level: Beginner.
In this session, we will work to make sure you are aware of the requirements surrounding marking and labeling, while providing you with information to be more familiar with how the 49 CFR and Hazardous Material Regulation (HMR) drives safety in the transportation of hazardous materials. We will explore the key terms related to marking and labeling, and understand your responsibilities of ensuring proper hazard communication.
